47th Agribition opens at new International Trade Centre

Cows and crowds are once again taking over Evraz Place as Canada’s largest livestock show gets underway.

The Canadian Western Agribition kicked off Monday for the 47th year.

Work to get the show setup took place over the weekend and Agribition CEO Chris Lane said the excitement was building during the setup process.

“The weekend before Agribition is probably one of the busiest times. It’s when all the trade show exhibitors come, it’s when all our final setups and preparations get done.”

He said that the stars of the show, the cattle, started to show up on Friday.

Lane said one of the biggest changes people will see this year comes with the opening of the International Trade Centre.

“We’ve done a lot of great programming in there, it’s a bright new building, there’s a lot to see and it’s the home of our best programming opportunity which is the cattle shows.”

Thanks to the new centre, visitors will no longer have to go outside to get between buildings.

Some of the new attractions this year include ‘goat yoga,’ which involves doing yoga alongside friendly goats and a Steer Riding Rodeo School, where children 12 to 16 years old can learn how to be a rodeo cowboy.

Lane said this year’s event will be unlike anything even the most seasoned Agribition veteran has seen before.

Agribition runs from November 20 to 25, you can find a full schedule of events for the week on the website.
