Winter takes aim at central Sask.

Nov 16, 2017 | 11:00 AM

For the second time this week, a big chunk of central and northeastern Saskatchewan is under a snowfall warning.

Environment Canada Meteorologist David Phillips said the Nipawin, Melfort and Tisdale areas could see 10 cm of snow, while the Prince Albert, Shellbrook and Spiritwood areas should expect around five cm of snow.

“Not a Paul Bunyan kind of snowfall but still a good amount and people need to be cautious when driving about,” Phillips said.

Phillips said the storm system from Alberta will bring precipitation, high winds and cold temperatures.

“It’ll probably be an all day event right through until about eight o’clock tonight with some lingering flurries overnight and into tomorrow,” Phillips said.

Drivers are cautioned as the storm system could reduce visibility on the highways. Conditions could vary throughout the day.

Snow plows in Prince Albert will be visible on the streets.

Brent Kennedy with the city’s public works department told paNOW crews are out working on the priority two routes (school zones, collector roads, city bus routes).

“Depending on how much snow falls today we may double back and look at those priority ones again,” he said.
