Use caution when warming your car: Police

Nov 15, 2017 | 11:00 AM

With 16 vehicle thefts so far in November, Prince Albert Police are advising residents to take precautions when warming up cars.

The most recent theft occurred Monday morning, when a vehicle was stolen from 26th St. E. while the owner left it running and unattended. The driver of the stolen vehicle attempted to flee pursuing officers and later abandoned the vehicle in the 700-block of 21st St. E. The suspect was found hiding a short distance away, police said, thanks to tracking by Police Service Dog Daxa.

“With the colder weather in the last few weeks there has been an increase of vehicle thefts,” Police spokesperson Alanna Adamko said. “In many situations residents left vehicles running unattended or the keys were left inside the vehicle.”

Adamko said a few simple steps can help keep your vehicle secure. Always ensure doors are locked and don’t leave the vehicle running while unattended, Adamko said. Make sure all windows and doors are completely closed, she added, and never leave keys or valuables inside.
