La Ronge high school back to normal after evacuation

Oct 19, 2017 | 5:00 PM

Classes resumed at a high school in La Ronge today after a threat led to the building’s evacuation yesterday afternoon.

According to the RCMP, Churchill Community High School was evacuated as a precaution after an “undisclosed threat” was made shortly before 1 p.m. Police attended the school to help with the evacuation, and staff and students were moved to a nearby location while the building was searched. Later in the day La Ronge RCMP reported their search was complete, and nothing suspicious was located.

Jason Young, director of education with the Northern Lights School Division, said the high school resumed operations this morning and all the students returned to classes as normal.

Young was not able to provide any more details of the incident because they are waiting for more information from police, but said the evacuation went very smoothly.
