In anticipation for the 2017 Kinsmen/Raiders Sportsperson of the Year Celebrity Fundraiser Awards Banquet at the Ches Leach Lounge on Oct. 28, the Prince Albert Kinsmen Club announced the three big winners of the night.

Bob Coffin, Sportsman of the Year

Bob Coffin will receive the Sportsman of the Year award for his long time work in Prince Albert football. He currently serves at the president of the Prince Albert Minor Football Association. Coffin has also been heavily involved in other sports, including wrestling.

“Bob was a coach for many years. As a teacher, he kind of got football going in Prince Albert and has excelled along with that,” event chairperson Jason Devers said.

Josh Kapacila, Male Athlete of the Year

Josh Kapacila is an animal in the gym, specifically the CrossFit gyms.

Kapacila finished in first place at the Battle of the Border in Lloydminster, featuring the best competitors in Western Canada. He’s also qualified for the last two CrossFit regionals.

Janice Boucher, Female Athlete of the Year

This is Boucher’s second honour at the Sportsman’s Athlete of the Year award, as she won it for previously for the world championship in archery in 1995.

After her success at that elite level, Boucher was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease three years ago. But that didn’t stop her from getting back in the winner’s circle after a pair of gold medals at the World Para Reining International Championships in the Netherlands in July. Boucher finished in first in both individual events and with Team Canada.
