Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital nears completion

The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital in Saskatoon will soon be a reality as the structure is 70 per cent complete.

With its final shape in place, all levels of the hospital including its helipad are complete and in keeping with schedule and budget.

Premier Brad Wall visited the site today to review its progress.

“In 2009 our government promised to build a hospital where Saskatchewan children could receive exceptional care closer to home,” Wall said. “Our thanks should go to the Children’s Hospital Foundation for its tireless fundraising, the generous donors who contributed millions of dollars to the hospital and to the young people who have served as champions of the project.”

The provincial government will contribute $235.5 million toward the total project cost of $285.2 million. An additional $21.4 million will come from investments and the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation is providing $75 million garnered through its fundraising campaign.

The hospital’s foundation president and CEO Brynn Boback-Lane said while the building’s progress is exciting, its inner workings will be what carries impact.

“This will be a world-class environment for our medical professionals, a family-friendly hospital for our youngest patients and a tribute to supporters and donors for providing a special place for children, moms-to-be and families from every corner of Saskatchewan,” she said. “We are grateful to the Government of Saskatchewan and everyone who has made Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital a reality.”

Crews continue to complete interior finishes on the building, specifically in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, the Pediatric Surgery areas along with adult and children emergency departments.

The hospital is slated to open late 2019.
