Long-lost $1 bill returned to family of original owner

A decades-old one dollar bill was returned to its original owner’s family this week in Prince Albert.

Grant Kimbley came across the 1973 $1 bill when a group of teens was about to use it at a convenience store.

Kimbley said he was simply trying to add another buck to his collection when he traded with the teens for the bill, but then he noticed writing on it.

“It has a note saying: ‘This was given to dad while he was in the hospital from Ed Allan,’” Kimbley said.

The note led Kimbley to post to Facebook on Sept. 21, in the hope that he’d find the family of one of the two men involved.

“After thinking about it, I wondered ‘What are the chances somebody might be missing this bill?’,” Kimbley said.

His post was shared over 200 times.

“I got at least three or four messages saying ‘Ed Allan was my father who passed away recently,’ and that if nobody claimed the dollar bill they would like it back with their family,” Kimbley said.

Kimbley said he dropped the bill off Friday at a house belonging to Ed Allan’s daughter.
