Raiders receive boost as Kelly returns

Sep 23, 2017 | 11:46 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders will receive a boost Saturday night as Parker Kelly returns to the ice in time for the teams opening weekend rematch in Moose Jaw against the Warriors.

Kelly was second on the Raiders in point production last season and signed an entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators earlier this week.

Friday, it was the Warriors kicking off the season on a high note, taking a 3-0 victory in front of over 2,500 fans at the Art Hauser Centre.

Brayden Burke got the scoring started in the second, giving Moose Jaw a one-goal lead after two periods. Early in the third, the Warriors tagged two more from Justin Almeida and Jett Woo in the first four minutes.

More significant than the loss on the scoreboard could be the loss of goaltender Ian Scott, who left the game early in the third period. Habscheid confirmed postgame that it was a lower-body injury, and commented “it’s not looking good,” stating that the Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick would not be playing Saturday.

Scott left having turned aside 26 of 28 shots. In a relief appearance, Nicholas Sanders made 11 saves on 12 shots in just under 19 minutes of action.

Raider forward D-Jay Jerome was slow to leave the ice after crashing heavily into the end boards midway through the third, but later returned and appeared to be no worse for wear.

The puck drops at 7:20 p.m. in Moose Jaw and fans can catch all the action starting with the pre-game show at 6:50 p.m. on 900 CKBI.
