Missing man was deceased when found: RCMP

RCMP are clarifying a missing Stanley Mission man who was found Sept. 15 was deceased when located.

An initial media release from the RCMP did not make it immediately clear that 26-year-old Thomas Ballantyne had died.

A spokesperson said information was withheld to ensure the family had time to notify others. Ballantyne was found in a bay of water near Stanley Mission.

RCMP do not believe the sudden death is suspicious and said the matter is now in the hands of the coroner. An autopsy will be conducted.

The man was last seen Sept. 10 and RCMP said investigators had been trying to locate him since his disappearance was reported to them.
