Gassing up to fuel good raises money in P.A.

Sep 19, 2017 | 12:00 PM

Lake Country Co-op will donate a portion of its procedes today to deserving charities in Prince Albert and region.

“Fuel Good Day is a cooperative idea, [which] is all about fueling our communities,” Cara Stelmaschuk, the director of marketing for Lake Country Co-op said.

The Lake Country gas bar in Big River is participating as well and 10 cents per litre of fuel sold will be given to the TD Michel Playground fund, which aims to construct a playground at the TD Michel School.

In Air Ronge, the co-op gas bar will also be donating 10 cents per litre and all donations collected from the tri-community area are set to be donated to the Mamawetan Churchill River Health Region’s Home Care Unit.

Five cents from every litre sold in P.A. is donated to the Victoria Hospital Foundation which was selected in Prince Albert because it services many people from the region, not just the city.

“It’s kind of like another way to catch some of the other communities who aren’t partaking in this particular event,” Stelmaschuk said. “It’s still, in a way, helping with something they might need to use some day.”

Stelmaschuk said the Prince Albert gas stations are aiming to sell 100,000 litres of fuel, but hope to excede their goal.

This is the first time Lake Country Co-op has hosted Fuel Good Day. Stelmaschuk said Co-op started the program last year, and Lake Country was “all in” on the opportunity to participate this year.

In order to fuel, or feel good, residents in Prince Albert can visit any of the four Co-op gas stations to fill-up.
