Teen shot in face in bizarre lover’s quarrel

Sep 18, 2017 | 5:00 PM

A young Winnipeg man came to Prince Albert over the weekend expecting to meet his child, but was ambushed and shot instead.

Antonio Morin, 18, said he received messages last week from a former girlfriend who claimed she had recently given birth to their daughter. Wishing to do the right thing, Morin said he and family members made the long drive to Prince Albert where he expected to meet his child for the first time Saturday evening. When he arrived alone at the arranged meeting spot – a parking lot on Central Ave. – Morin said he was ambushed and attacked by his ex and three men.

“Her and her new boyfriend and friends all came and surrounded me and pointed a gun to my face,” Morin told paNOW.

Morin said one of the men handed a pellet pistol to his former girlfriend, who shot him once in the face. The group then fled on foot across the nearby train tracks.

“Got shot right in the face, point blank,” Morin said. “There was a couple witnesses, but I’m not sure if they said anything because of the gun.”

The young victim said the pellet has still not been removed from his cheek, and he is travelling home to Winnipeg where he expects he will undergo surgery. Morin, a full-time student, said he is still in some pain from the injury but is currently resting with family and is doing quite well given the circumstances.

Morin said he believed his former girlfriend fabricated the story about the child in order to lure him to Prince Albert to be attacked, as their relationship did not end well. When asked if there was any chance the child was real, Morin said “I highly doubt it.”

A spokesperson for the Prince Albert Police Service was able to confirm the shooting occurred, but only limited details were available. Police are currently investigating the shooting, and no arrests have yet been made.
