P.A. set for 37th year of Terry Fox Run

Sep 15, 2017 | 12:20 PM

Prince Albert is among 700 communities nationwide that will run in the name of an iconic Canadian this weekend.

The city will host the Terry Fox Run for its 37th year this Sunday, Sept. 17. Registration starts at 1:15 p.m at the Alfred Jenkins Field House, and the run will start at 2 p.m. Individuals are welcome to walk, run, or bike the two, five, or 10 km options along Rotary Trail.

In a press release, Carrie McCoshen, co-chair of the Prince Albert Terry Fox Run said the organization is excited about the new location for the event.

We “hope to see another great turnout and fundraising total for this important cause that affects too many people in our community,” she said.

At only 18 years old, Fox learned about a growing tumor on his leg. His leg was amputated six inches above the knee and he received chemotherapy to destroy remaining cancer cells. Instead of watching others and himself suffer from cancer, Fox founded the Marathon of Hope and ran across Canada to raise cancer awareness and spread compassion.

Canadians have raised over $750 million for cancer research since Fox ran in 1980.

Interested participants can also register and make donations online at www.terryfox.org or pick up a pledge form at the Alfred Jenkins Field House, Art Hauser Centre, city hall or Canadian Tire.
