Vincent Massey evacuated after minor fire

Sep 6, 2017 | 5:20 PM

A small fire broke out at Vincent Massey Community School Wednesday shortly before noon that caused the evacuation of the school before students were sent home.

The fire department reported there was a small fire burning on top of a stove in a classroom that was quickly extinguished. Staff members used several extinguishers to help limit the growth of the fire during the evacuation.

Fire crews say thanks to fire drill training and helpful staff, the evacuation was orderly and no injuries were reported.

Crews were on scene for approximately one-and-a-half hours assisting facility staff with ventilation of the building.
