Play space revitalized for inpatient mental health children

A vacant outdoor area will soon become a $60,000 playground for youth admitted to the Mental Health Inpatient Unit at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert.

Ground was broke Tuesday following a $30,000 donation from the Elks.

“It’s amazing to think that so much can be done to help a child’s mental health and wellbeing simply by getting them outside and active through play,” said Sherry Buckler, Executive Director of the Victoria Hospital Foundation (VHF). “The mental health of our young people is a serious issue now firmly on everyone’s agenda and the donors who have partnered with us on this playground project have demonstrated leadership and compassion. Our Foundation and hospital are deeply grateful.”

The campaign, launched in March, began as a partnership between the VHF and the Elks and Royal Purple Club. Since then, Buckler said other community partners have participated including RBC Prince Albert Branch, Flaman Fitness, Shercom Industries, Meeks Enterprises, A&B Rubber Paving and Madsen Fencing.
