Campbell wins second straight Jr. Lobstick, both over a set of twins

On Friday, Saskatoon’s Andrew Campbell won his second straight Pepsi Junior Lobstick at the Waskesiu Golf Course. Not only did he beat a set of twins in the finals of both victories, but he almost did so in identical fashion.

Last year, Campbell saved par on Hole 17 to beat Brock Ochitwa to win his first Junior Lobstick title.

Then on Friday, Campbell parred the 18^th hole to defeat Payton Ochitwa, parring the 18^th to hold on for his second straight Lobstick win.

“They’re both really great guys,” Campbell said. “Payton played really good today and we had a good match. It was close.

“It feels great. It’s happened before but it’s always great. It’s my favourite tournament, to come up here.”

Campbell had a two-hole lead in the match Championship Flight finals until Payton parred Hole 16 to get back within one. Campbell was able to play safe and solid golf to par the remaining two holes and hold on to the win.

“On 18, my ball striking was good all day,” Campbell said. “I knew wherever I’d hit it, I’d keep it in play and force him to make a birdie. Luckily he didn’t and I just held on.”

Prince Albert’s Josh Guthrie won the Championship Flight Consolation title over fellow P.A. golfer Mikhail Tait on the 17^th hole. In the qualifying round to start the tournament, Guthrie had a tournament-best score of 70 to be the top seed in the Championship Flight.

But Guthrie lost his first match to Saskatoon’s Julian Gilewicz, and went undefeated the rest of the way beating Kael Lechman, Michael Spafford and Tait to win the title.

“I played most of the days really good,” Guthrie said. “It was just the second day that I had a bad day.

“I just cooled down and made sure I took everything lightly I guess, and didn’t let it get to my head.”
