Summer weather heats up Candle Lake real estate market

Aug 17, 2017 | 2:00 PM

When the skies are clear, the weather is hot and the lake is like glass, the decision to buy a cabin becomes a little easier to make.  At least, that’s what realtor Ric Valcourt attributes to an increase in sales.

In previous years, an average of three properties were sold during the month of July at Candle lake. This year, Valcourt said 12 properties were sold at the popular resort village.

“Summer has been very good for the Candle Lake real estate market,” he said.

Valcourt has been selling real estate in the Prince Albert and Candle Lake area for 13 years. He said now is a good time to buy or sell.

“There has been lots of inventory over the last three years. So, sellers are more eager to sell but that hasn’t necessarily affected the price,” he said.

Valcourt explained most people stay close to their selling price point because the cabin is usually their second property and most sellers aren’t looking to buy something else.

Of the dozen cabins purchased last month, Valcourt said about seven of them sold in the $200,000 range. He estimates there are approximately 100 properties currently for sale in and around Candle Lake.
