Oilers lock up former Raider Draisaitl long term

Aug 16, 2017 | 1:09 PM

The Edmonton Oilers are paying former Prince Albert Raider Leon Draisaitl big money for a long time.

Draisaitl signed an eight-year, $68 million extension with the Oilers on Wednesday. That gives him an annual average salary of $8.5 million until the 2024-25 season.

After coming over to the Raiders second overall in the 2012 CHL Import Draft, Draisaitl played two full seasons with the Raiders from 2012-14. He scored 163 points in 128 games before starting his NHL career with the Oilers.

Draisaitl scored over 100 points for the Raiders in the 2013-14 season, a feat not accomplished by another Raider since Steve Kelly scored 101 points during the 1995-96 season.
