The Saskatchewan Roughriders were handed their third straight loss by the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday night in Edmonton.
The Eskimos beat the Riders in every phase of the game and ended up with a 39-24 victory, a score that makes the Roughriders look better than they were.
On the first play of the game, Roughriders kick returner Ryan Grice-Mullen misplayed the kickoff, which was a sign of things to come. The Roughriders ended up turning the ball over five times, while the Eskimos did not commit any turnovers.
And for the fourth straight game, the Roughriders defence couldn't stop the run as Daniel Porter had 121 yards rushing and one touchdown. The Eskimos totaled 160 yards on the ground.
The loss officially ends the Riders hopes of getting first place in the West and their playoff fate is sealed as they will host the Western Semi-Final against either the Eskimos or B.C. Lions on November 14th.
The lone star for the Roughriders was receiver Cary Koch, who replaced the injured Weston Dressler. Koch ended the day with eight receptions for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Both Koch's touchdowns came from passes delivered by back-up quarterback Ryan Dinwiddie late in the fourth quarter.
The Riders will now try to regroup with two games left in the regular season. Up next is a trip to Vancouver to take on the B.C. Lions on October 31st.
