Car chase ends with spike belt and broken windows

Aug 15, 2017 | 12:16 PM

A disturbance call ended with a car chase over the Diefenbaker Bridge.

Early this morning, officers answered a disturbance call on River Street. When they arrived, a vehicle attempted to leave the residence in a hurry. A chase ensued and ended with a spike strip laid shortly before the bridge. The vehicle’s two front tires were punctured and it came to a stop on the grass boulevard on Highway 2 by the Shellbrook overpass.

But when police told the driver to turn-off the vehicle, she decided to take off instead. She turned west onto the landfill road and eventually drove into the ditch.

Officers approached the vehicle with guns drawn. After the driver failed to comply again, officers broke the driver side and passenger windows. A female driver and male passenger were arrested.
