Heavy rain causes flooding in Warman

A rainstorm that moved into central Saskatchewan Monday left behind flooding in Warman.

The rain started just before the supper hour, with a heavy downpour leaving some intersections underwater.

At one point, some 80 millimetres of rain fell in a 30-minute period, according to Environment Canada.

“Obviously, that much rain in that short of a time certainly leads to a lot of flash flooding. A lot of low-lying areas collecting water in a short period of time,” said meteorologist Mike McDonald.

She told guest-host David Kirton that she was shocked at how quickly the system moved through her community.

“Within about 20 minutes, half of our front lawn was underwater, and probably about three feet into our backyard was also filling up with water,” she said.

Battersby said the storm ended quickly, but left a miniature lake on her street.

“It looked like high tide,” she said.

Several Warman residents took to Facebook to share video and photos of the storm and its aftermath.
