P.A. pediatrician leaves legacy of patient care

Jul 25, 2017 | 12:00 PM

A 40-year Prince Albert pediatrician has left some big shoes to fill a legacy behind in the medical community.

Dr. Tilak Malhotra, the Vice President of the Regional Medical Association of Prince Albert, passed away on July 17th, 2017.

He moved to Prince Albert in 1975 upon completion of his post graduate medical training in the United Kingdom. Once settled, Tilak was the only pediatrician in the city for 20 years.

He was also a father to Sara, Rohin, and Unjali, and a husband to Dr. Lalita Malhotra; an accomplished professional in her own right.

Tilak travelled to northern Saskatchewan communities with healthcare gaps. Lalita said her husband impacted many lives.

“They [patients] have reached many heights because of his direction and his interest in the patients,” she said, adding he had a lasting impact on “many, many people” apart from just his patients.

Dr. Tilak Malhotra’s work was recognized on a national platform. He became the province’s first pediatrician to be asked to participate on the National Board for the Canadian Pediatrics Society.

“He was a great man… and [he] contributed a lot to our society, and to the medical community,” Lalita said.

“That’s what we should remember him for.”
