Defending champion Northern Bears 2017-18 schedule released

The defending champion Prince Albert Northern Bears will kick off their 2017-18 Saskatchewan Midget Female AAA Hockey League season with home games against the Battlefords Sharks, who they knocked out of the first round of the playoffs last year.

Their title defence begins on Saturday, Oct. 7 at the Art Hauser Centre, followed by a rematch against the Sharks the following afternoon. P.A. hosts Swift Current for two games the next weekend.

The Bears then hit the road for four straight, two in Saskatoon and two in Weyburn. It’s one of two times next season when they’ll play two consecutive weekends away from home.

The middle of the schedule appears to be the toughest for P.A. Between Dec. 16 to Jan. 28, they’ll play four games against Regina, two against Melville, and one against Saskatoon.

The Bears wrap up their season with two home games against Weyburn on Feb. 17 and 18.

October is the busiest month for the club, as they play two games every weekend, for a total of eight in the month.

Twenty of the Bears games will be played in 2017, with just eight scheduled for 2018.

All of their games except for two will be played on weekends. They have one Thursday game in November and one Wednesday game in December, both against the Saskatoon Stars.
