After a 38-year career in public service, the current SaskTel CEO is retiring.

Ron Styles announced Tuesday he will be retiring from the position, which he has held since 2010.

His retirement takes effect on Canada Day.

“My 38 years in the Saskatchewan public service have been very rewarding,” Styles said in a news release. “I look forward to new challenges going forward and I want to thank both the board and staff at SaskTel for their support over the past seven years.”

Since Styles took over as CEO, Sasktel opened a Tier III Data Centre, built the largest Wi-Fi network in the province, extended fibre optics to more than 200,000 homes and completed the expansion of LTE across Saskatchewan.

He said he will continue to provide advice and consultation to the government on matters dealing with their telecommunications and information technology sectors.

Styles has also been the president of Crown Investments Corporation, deputy minister of finance, deputy minister of highways and transportation, president of SaskWater, president of SaskHousing, and senior roles at municipal government and community services.

In 2014, he received the Lieutenant Governor’s Gold Medal for his exceptional leadership and contribution in public administration.

Doug Burnett, current vice-president of human resources and corporate services, will assume Styles’ role July 1.
