Crews respond to structure fire at vacant property

Fire crews responded to a structure fire at 1015 17 St. West at around 1:27 p.m. Monday afternoon.

Upon arrival, a vacant property was found ablaze. Flames were seen on the west side of the building by a broken window and they had spread into the attic space. Crews quickly knocked down the flames.

Deputy Chief Corey Rodgers said the home has been on fire before. 

Area residents said kids are frequently seen playing in the house.

Rodgers said that anytime a place is not occupied, it is possible that people could be going in.

“That is why they need to be secured,” Rodgers said.

There were no injuries reported and the cause is currently under investigation.
