Jun 24, 2017 | 8:12 AM

The Ronald McDonald Family room at Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital will benefit from a local harvest.

The room has been announced as the recipient of this year’s crop proceeds from Redhead Equipment’s Field of the Future initiative.

The Ronald McDonald Family Room provides a space for families to escape the hospital setting and enjoy the comforts of home in a relaxing environment. The room in Prince Albert is the first of its kind in Saskatchewan.

“Since opening our doors in September 2016, more than 500 families have been welcomed and supported,” said Marcelline Zimmer, director of operations for Ronald McDonald House Charities Saskatchewan. “All funds donated to the Family Room in Prince Albert stay in the community and directly support this program’s food, supplies and other expenses.”

Arron McLean, agriculture sales manager at Redhead Equipment said; “We’ve had numerous staff that have used the Family Room and expressed gratitude for it in conversation.”

“Given the Prince Albert Hospital PEDS Unit serves the whole northern region; this contribution will assist many of our customers and friends,” he added.

In four years, the initiative has raised over $178,000 for local organizations.

The project began in 2013 as a way to test various crops in the area. This year’s crop features five different wheat varieties that will be compared for how they stand up to the local climate.
