No injuries in downtown structure fire

Jun 18, 2017 | 4:14 PM

At approximately 2:10 p.m., emergency crews responded to a report of smoke in the attic at 140 8 Street East.

Upon arrival, fire crew members determined there was an active fire in the attic space. There were two people in the building at the time. Both escaped without injury.

According to Fire Chief Jason Everitt, crews were able to get in quickly and suppress the fire. There was damage to the structure, as parts of the ceiling were required to be pulled down to suppress the flames.

Everitt said it was too early to determine the origin or cause of the fire. Investigators will examine the residence Monday, though it is not considered suspicious.
