Lac La Ronge chief ‘deeply concerned’ but confident in community following disturbing events

The Chief of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band said she has full confidence in her community following a disturbing incident this past week.

Tammy Cook-Searson said she is “deeply concerned” by recent events in her community. This past Tuesday, La Ronge RCMP and EMS confirmed a child under 12 doused two other children – an 11-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy – with gasoline and set them on fire. The girl was brought to hospital La Ronge, while the boy was airlifted to Saskatoon.

Cook-Searson said the children have since returned home from hospital, “but they have a long recovery ahead of them.”

She put her faith in the staff of the La Ronge Indian Child and Family Services Agency to work with the affected children and their families, was grateful to the community member who came to the aid of the children, and to nurses, doctors, paramedics and RCMP who played their part.
