P.A.’s Sawchuk surprises in Lobstick upset

A 32-seed doesn’t often beat the top ranked player in any given Conexus Men’s Lobstick tournament, but that’s exactly what happened on Wednesday.

Prince Albert youngster Cory Sawchuk, the 32^nd ranked player in the Championship Flight, upended the No. 1 player Tyler Zaba in the opening match play round on Wednesday. Sawchuk well take on Kelly Robson in round two.

In fact, it was a day of upsets. The 4-seed Shaun Dunphy was upended in the opening round by Jason Galon, as was the fifth-ranked Warren Gnam by Liam Courtney.

The second-ranked Danny Klughart, also from Prince Albert, beat Brad Phelps in the opening round. He takes on Ryan Timmerman in the second round.
