Bail hearing delayed for man accused of injuring five youth

Apr 28, 2017 | 2:00 PM

The young man accused of injuring five youth with his vehicle and fleeing the scene will remain in custody until at least Wednesday.

Colt Levi Morin, 20, is facing a number of serious charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and impaired driving causing bodily harm after he allegedly struck a group of five youth on the Big River First Nation April 9. An 11-year-old girl was airlifted to hospital in Saskatoon by STARS while the remaining four suffered minor injuries. RCMP announced Morin was charged in connection with the collision April 21.

“He’s in some serious trouble,” Judge Felecia Daunt noted in provincial court today, April 28.

Morin’s bail hearing was set to proceed Monday, but had to be delayed until today to allow time for a bail verification report to be prepared. A bail verification report is ordered by the court to provide insight into the living arrangements of an accused person before they are released.

Today Morin’s bail hearing was delayed again as the report did not include a recommendation on the possibility of electronic monitoring at Morin’s residence and because Morin’s lawyer is still waiting for disclosure information from the Crown.

“I can’t run a bail hearing without all the information,” Morin’s lawyer Mary McAuley said before requesting the matter be adjourned until next week. “Hopefully I’ll get the rest of the disclosure before that time.”

Morin will be back in Prince Albert Provincial Court May 3 to seek his release from custody. None of the charges against him have been tested in court.
