Field openings on the horizon

Despite blasts of winter continuing to pelt the region, the city of Prince Albert is eager to open their soccer and baseball fields.

Parks Manager Bob Gill said the city’s numerous fields came out of winter in pretty good shape despite a lack of snowpack.

The next steps will be to let the fields dry out a little bit and by next week, the city is optimistic they can get on them, get them swept and clean up any debris before painting lines.

Contingent on fair weather, the baseball and soccer seasons are tentatively set to start May 1.

“We may have to delay the start time, but we do our best to make sure it is ready on start day,” Gills said.

Though ice hockey season has come to a close, boards on outdoor rinks will continue to stay up throughout the summer before the city goes in this fall and cleans up the sites.

“Last weekend was a little bit disappointing here, but I am looking to move on and get the 15-degree temperatures, dry things out and get on with the next season,” Gill said.
