Sturgeon Lake child porn case delayed

Mar 1, 2017 | 1:00 PM

The case of a Sturgeon Lake man charged with child pornography was delayed this morning to allow lawyers time to discuss a potential resolution.

George Edward Herald Sanderson, 22, was charged with making and distributing child pornography in October. He was also charged with two counts each of sexual assault and sexual interference, which allegedly occurred on the Sturgeon Lake First Nation and James Smith Cree Nation.

Sanderson did not speak during his appearance except to identify himself. Sanderson appeared via video link from Prince Albert Correctional Centre, where he has been held since his bail application was denied Nov. 3. Details of the evidence presented at the bail hearing are protected under a publication ban.

Sanderson’s Saskatoon-based defense lawyer Ronald Piché requested the case be adjourned until Monday so he could consult with the Crown on a potential resolution to the case and canvas dates for a preliminary inquiry. The request was granted by Provincial Court Judge Hugh Harradence.

Man fined for flaunting court orders

A 19-year-old Prince Albert man was fined in provincial court this morning for repeatedly ignoring court orders and failing to perform community service.

Daniel Matthew McAdam Jr. was handed $340 in fines after failing to report to a probation officer as ordered, failing to complete any of his 40 court-ordered community service hours and missing court appearances.

Judge Harradence told McAdam the fines could have been much higher, and warned him to take more responsibility for his actions in the future.

“Probation has not been good for you,” Harradence said. “You’re going to have to act responsibly and work these fines off.”
