Mintos beat Contacts; take 1-0 playoff series lead

The Prince Albert Mintos entered the postseason with a 10-game winning streak, and were able to keep that intact with a 5-2 victory over the Saskatoon Contacts Thursday in the Bridge City.

The Mintos now have a 1-0 advantage in the best-of-five opening round Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League playoff series.

The Mintos were led by a two-goal performance from rookie Logan Barlage.

Alex Moar, who’s from Prince Albert, scored the important 3-2 goal and the Mintos’ eventual game winner on the power play five minutes into the third period.

Barlage got his second to make it a 4-2 game with five minutes remaining. Kyrell Sopotyk filled the empty net with five seconds left. Austin Lamotte scored in the first period.

Contacts forward Chance Adrian scored both of the Saskatoon’s goals.

Game 2 of the best-of-five series will be at the Art Hauser Centre on Sunday at 7 p.m. Tickets are free along with a purchase at Canadian Tire.
