Sask. Rush president announces departure from team

Feb 14, 2017 | 12:19 PM

In a tweet on Valentine’s Day, the president of the Saskatchewan Rush announced his split from the team.

“It saddens me to tell everyone that I have parted ways with the Rush. I want to thank everyone that has made this such an amazing experience,” Lee Genier tweeted Tuesday.

The post has already received an outpouring of responses from people thanking Genier for his time with the team.

Genier was appointed as president of the Rush in July 2015, shortly after the team finished their last season in Edmonton.

He oversaw the team’s inaugural season in Saskatchewan, collecting a championship ring for the 2016 campaign.

He previously worked with the Calgary Stampeders for 18 years, and served as vice president of Bobsleigh Canada.

The move comes while the Rush ride a four-game winning streak, after losing their first two decisions of the season.

In a media release a team spokesperson said the entire organization thanks Genier for his many contributions over the past year. The team will look to hold a fundraiser later in the season for the Genier family.

“Lee’s passion and leadership over the past year has been instrumental in the successful launch of the Rush in Saskatchewan and we will continue to rally around him as he steps aside to focus on his family,” team owner Bruce Urban said in the release.
