Melfort hospital announces clinic closure

Jan 31, 2017 | 9:00 AM

The Melfort Hospital on-call clinic will be closed for an indefinite period starting Wednesday.

According to a news release from the Kelsey Trail Health Region, the closure is due to mounting workload pressures.

The on-call clinic was established in February 2014 to help alleviate pressure on the emergency room, providing an alternative for patients with non-urgent health issues.  The clinic was also providing assistance to families who did not have a regular physician.

Melfort and area residents who are uncertain if their medical condition requires immediate or emergecy care are asked to contact Healthline at 811.

Patients that don’t have a family physician are encouraged to contact any doctor within the health region and ask if they are accepting new patients.

Visitors to the emergency room are reminded that patients are seen based on the priority of the case, rather than time of arrival.
