Poll shows Sask. residents support premier’s carbon tax fight

It appears the people are with the premier in a fight against a federal carbon tax.
 
A new province-wide Insightrix Research poll, commissioned by the Sask. Party, asked residents whether they support or oppose the prime minister’s plan to impose a carbon tax on Saskatchewan.
 
Seventy-three per cent responded they were against the tax – with 56 per cent strongly opposed – while 27 per cent supported it.  
 
“This poll shows that our government’s position is the same as a large majority of Saskatchewan people,” Premier Brad Wall said in a news release Tuesday.
 
“Saskatchewan people know that now is not the time for a carbon tax that will harm our economy and kill jobs in Saskatchewan.”
 
The survey involved 803 respondents who took part online between Jan. 9-12. Since the research was conducted online, it’s considered to be a non-probability proportion sample and therefore, margins of error are not applicable.
 
Wall also pointed out his government and MLAs will continue to stand up for the province by opposing the carbon tax. He added the province will continue to work toward solutions to climate change through innovation and adaptation, not taxation.
