Canwood twins to cut hair for rink repair

Jan 15, 2017 | 11:00 AM

Twins Hauk and Hanson Bahnuik are doing something great for their community.

The 10-year-old twins from Canwood, Sask. are not only growing out their hair for cancer. They are also raising money to help support the Canwood Skating Rink where they play for the Canwood Canucks.

The twins said they have been growing out their hair two years.

“My older brother did it for my grandma because she had cancer,” Hanson said. “We really like that my grandma doesn’t have cancer anymore.”

The pair are also raising money to help with repairs at the local rink.

“We have a small community, so it probably needs as much money as it can get,” Hauk said.

Lorna Benson, treasurer for the rink, said the facility is in need of a new roof and the hope is to have it replaced this summer.

She said it’s very inspiring to see these two young men working so hard to improve their community.

“They’re only 10 years old, and it’s a true indication of their personalities and the big loving hearts they have for one, their grandma who’s a cancer survivor and two, for their community, a place they like to go and do a sport they love,” Benson said.

The boys will cut their blonde locks Jan 28 at the Canwood Skating Rink.
