Travel advisories lifted, extreme cold warning remains in effect

Jan 12, 2017 | 7:50 AM

Highways near Prince Albert were clearing early Thursday morning following treacherous conditions Wednesday night.

Blowing snow yesterday caused near whiteout conditions on several roads in and around Prince Albert.

The Ministry of Highways began lifting travel not recommended advisories just after 5 a.m. However, most highways still carried warnings of slippery conditions and blowing snow.

Within Prince Albert, drivers reported extremely slippery conditions on several roadways, including cars hitting ditches and curbs within city limits.

The entire province of Saskatchewan remained under extreme cold warnings from Environment Canada Thursday morning.

Cold impacts flights at Saskatoon Airport

The weather also caused issues for flights in and out of Saskatoon International Airport.

Two early morning West Jet flights leaving Saskatoon for Vancouver and Winnipeg were cancelled. Another West Jet flight arriving just after 11 a.m. from Winnipeg was also cancelled.

Air Canada reported that a flight due to leave Saskatoon for Winnipeg at 9:35 a.m. was delayed to 11:30 a.m.

The Ministry of Highways has been issuing updates via its Highway Hotline Twitter account.
