Sask. drivers facing treacherous conditions

Jan 12, 2017 | 4:45 AM

Saskatchewan drivers faced terrible highway conditions Wednesday evening due to extreme blowing snow.

After most of the province had been placed under a blowing snow advisory, RCMP asked drivers to avoid travel across the province.

A release from RCMP reads “based on the reports from Detachments all over the Province this evening, the RCMP would like to advise motorists NOT to travel. Whiteout conditions exist over most of the Province’s roadways due to the wind and blowing snow. A number of motorists are reported to be in ditches already due to the conditions.”

Environment Canada Meteorologist Justin Share expected the blowing snow to improve within hours.

“The visibility will begin improving overnight and into the early morning,” Share said. “On Thursday morning people will start dealing with extreme windchill values.”
