P.A. Food Bank prepares for annual Christmas struggle

Dec 7, 2016 | 11:00 AM

As Christmas and family get-togethers approach, the Prince Albert Food Bank is once again feeling the holiday pinch.

Shoaid Mohamad Omar, who helps with support services at the food bank, said the location is “getting cleaned out pretty fast” as their client list increases during the holidays.

In the last few days staff has already seen roughly 70 people come through their door.

“Unfortunately we’re not getting as much donations as is needed,” he said.

Specifically they’re running out of canned vegetables and currently have no canned fruit.

A large part of the holidays is embracing the Christmas spirit, which Omar said they’ve already started to see through heftier donations.

As well, the third-annual Ball Breaker promotion, held at the Prince Albert Co-op in association with XFM, will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14.

Last year the event raised 6,000 lbs of food and more than 20,000 in donations for the food bank.
