Giant Tiger among big building permits in P.A.

Dec 6, 2016 | 11:00 AM

The West Flat will finally get itself a grocery store.

A new Giant Tiger store is slated for the site of the former Holy Family Hospital. The store was among the permits issued by the City of Prince Albert in 2016,

Construction is well underway, although the date of the official store opening has not been confirmed to paNOW.

According to city’s building permits report for November, 2016 is on track to be a busier construction year than 2015.

There have been 125 permits issued so far this year for single family homes, compared to 102 for the same period in 2015.

Multi-family home permits have also seen a small increase.

The overall value of the building permits issued to date in 2016 is just over $41 million, a three million dollar increase from 2015.

Kim Johnson, the city’s chief building inspector, said there have not been a lot of big projects but rather a lot of add-ons and additions to existing projects.

Examples of this were the Starbucks and Mucho Burrito at Cornerstone, as well as the creation of the Ronald McDonald house family room at Victoria Hospital.

The new Giant Tiger store is the second of two grocery stores slated for building in the city next year.

Last week it was announced a new Save-On-Foods store would be opening up at Cornerstone behind TD Bank.
