The Santa parade returns to P.A.’s downtown

Nov 25, 2016 | 4:00 PM

The Santa parade is coming back to Prince Albert.

The parade will take place on Nov. 26 on Central Ave., starting at 10:30 a.m. near the Prince Albert Historical Museum and end in front of the Gateway Mall an hour later.

Lori Bourne, the event coordinator of the Prince Albert Downtown Business Improvement District, said she was surprised and delighted by participants’ passion.

“It just seems really great,” she said. “I’m just so pleased that we had such a huge turnout for entries and lots of people phoning and asking about it, and I think…we are going to get a lot of people.”

Led by Ballet N All That Jazz, MP and MLAs of Prince Albert, the parade will have 27 entries consisting of vehicles, walkers and floats, Bourne said. About 20 girls from the downtown dance group will dance to Christmas music, nursing students from the University of Saskatchewan will walk with a banner and there will be girls on a float dressed up as princesses. Santa will show up as the last entry on a float.

Being in Prince Albert for only six years, Bourne said this would be her first Santa parade here and she hopes it could become an annual event.

The event previously stopped for about 10 years due to the cold weather, the lack of volunteers and participants, Bourne said. They decided to bring the parade back this year as they expected this winter to be mild.

Hot drinks at some downtown restaurants will be offered at a special price during the event.
