Diamond earrings star at Christie’s jewels auction in Geneva

GENEVA — Christie’s is kicking off the Geneva fall season of big-ticket jewelry auctions, headlining a pair of pear-shaped diamond earrings that are estimated to fetch 20 million to 30 million Swiss francs ($20 million to $30 million).

The “Miroir de l’Amour” earrings feature the largest D Flawless, or highest-quality, pear-shaped diamonds in the world, at more than 50 carats each.

The earrings will be offered Tuesday night without a reserve price. That means they will sell even if they fall below the estimate range.

Managing director Tobias Kormind of jeweler 77 Diamonds predicted the buyer would be “a newly minted Russian or Chinese billionaire oligarch or business tycoon who does not shy from flaunting their wealth.”
