Mustangs coach signs contract extension

Nov 1, 2016 | 7:00 PM

The Melfort Mustangs have secured the services of Trevor Blevins for three more years.

The team’s head coach and general manager has signed an extension to his contract.

Blevins took over as head coach midway through the 2013-14 season.

The team was dead last in the standings at the time, but made a late season comeback with Blevins behind the bench and finished third in the league, actually winning the Sherwood Division Pennant.

In 2014-15 the Mustangs won a second division title and finished first overall in the SJHL.

The team carried that momentum into the post season and lost only two games in their playoff run to claim their first league championship in 19 years.

This past season, the Mustangs finished second overall in the SJHL standings and won their third straight Sherwood Division banner. The team would then go on to win their second straight Canalta Cup Championship.
