Raiders rookie buries his first; team goes full Halloween

Oct 26, 2016 | 5:00 PM

Not only was Sunday’s 3-2 win over the Calgary Hitmen big for the Prince Albert Raiders to get back on track, but it was even bigger for one of their most recent transactions.

Rookie Adam Kadlec, who was acquired from the Prince George Cougars last Tuesday, scored his first WHL career goal. The 17-year-old Kadlec sniped on a partial breakaway in Calgary against the Hitmen to open the scoring, leading to their 3-2 victory.

He said after the game on Twitter that he was glad to not only get his first WHL goal, but to do so in front of his mother.

“It was the best feeling ever,” Kadlec said, who hails from Chicago. “Obviously, it’s awesome to score your first goal. But to do it in front of your mom who’s been there the whole way in your hockey career, to see you score your first goal at every level and to be there every practice and game, it’s the best thing. It’s the best way to reward your mom for everything she’s done.”

Kadlec has been in three games with the Raiders, like fellow newly-acquired Raider Cavin Leth.

“I fit in awesome. I was welcomed right away,” Kadlec said. “I had a really good relationship with the kids right off the bat. It’s just a really fun group of guys, that’s all you need for a championship.”

Raiders go full Halloween

There were some excellent costumes on display in the Raiders’ annual Halloween shinny scrimmage. Luke Coleman wins the unofficial paNOW award for Best Costume for his bathtub and rubber ducky ensemble.

The Best Team Costume Award goes to Parker Kelly, Cole Fonstad and Spencer Moe who all dressed up in different colours of Crayons.

The Raiders have two home games this weekend, Friday against the Spokane Chiefs and Saturday against the Saskatoon Blades. This is the first time this season the Raiders will play the Blades at home.
