Impaired driving checks cancelled due to fog: P.A. Police

Oct 24, 2016 | 2:05 PM

Prince Albert Police Service (PAPS) cracked down on impaired driving over the weekend, but their efforts were slowed by the fog which settled over the city.

Sgt. Travis Willie said the dense fog meant PAPS had to cancel several planned roadside checks due to concerns for officer safety, but still managed to perform 25 vehicle stops. These stops resulted in two seized vehicles and six traffic tickets issued.

Two people were charged with impaired driving over the weekend. Willie said one charge was a direct result of extra officers taking proactive steps against impaired driving. The other, Willie said, was the result of a traffic accident Saturday night.

In addition to their extra efforts against impaired driving, PAPS responded to 319 calls for service over the weekend. This number is slightly up from last year, when the detachment received 282 calls.
