Trial date set for accused in Uranium City manslaughter case

Oct 19, 2016 | 2:00 PM

Almost six years after a Uranium City trailer fire claimed the lives of two men, a trial date is set for the accused.

Michael La Rocque, 31, of Stony Rapids, will appear before a Black Lake provincial court Nov. 8 to stand trial on two counts of manslaughter. A charge of motor vehicle theft against La Rocque, was dismissed by a La Ronge court yesterday.

On Jan. 4, 2010, the remains of Jack Cochrane and Phillip Nighttraveller were found in a burned-out trailer in Uranium City, approximately 700 km north of Prince Albert.

The RCMP’s Historical Case Unit North spent more than four years investigating the case before arresting La Rocque in 2014.
