Raiders decide on their goaltending duo: Meger re-assigned

Oct 18, 2016 | 8:14 AM

The Prince Albert Raiders have made a goaltending decision.

Curtis Meger was re-assigned to the SJHL’s Estevan Bruins.

Head Coach Marc Habscheid announced the roster move Monday night during the “face-off program” on 900 CKBI. He said the 18-year-old from Regina remains in the Raiders’ long term plans, but needs playing time.

The Regina Pat Canadians grad posted a 2-1 record during the pre-season with a 5.74 GAA and .862 SP. Meger turned in two very good performances after giving up six goals during a shaky start in the Raiders pre-season opener Sept 2 in Regina. However Meger hasn’t played in nine regular season games.

The team’s two netminders heading into this weekend’s three game Alberta road trip are 17-year-old Ian Scott who has appeared in eight of the nine regular season games (2-4-1, 2.98 GAA, .918 SP), and 18-year-old Nicholas Sanders who appeared in three games with the Tri City Americans (2-1, 2.66 GAA, .892 SP). He was acquired in last Thursday’s trade involving overage goalie Rylan Parenteau.

The road trip opens Friday night in Edmonton with stops Saturday night in Red Deer and Sunday afternoon in Calgary.  The Friday and Sunday games can be heard on 900 CKBI, while Saturday’s game will be carried on MIX 101-FM.
