Rooftop campout raises $10,000

Sep 30, 2016 | 12:00 PM

Some tired and weary fire fighters descended from the roof of the Prince Albert fire hall Friday morning.

A two-day rooftop campout for muscular dystrophy raised nearly $10,000.

Canadian Tire donated $5,000 and agreed also to match the first $5,000 raised.

Roughly $2,5000 dollars was collected through donations by people stopping by the fire hall and throwing money in the boot.

“Everybody on the roof had a blast doing it, playing cards, honking the horn at people, tryng to get their attention,” said fire fighter Stephane Gaudet.

The men worked in shifts during the campout.

“It was all off-duty guys who voluneteered their time to be up there, and just had a lot of pizza and coffee,” he said.

All the money raised stays in Saskatchewan and goes to support people living with Muscular Dystrophy in the province.

Gaudet said they will be doing the fundraiser again next year.

Rooftop Campouts started in 2006 when a handful of Edmonton Fire Fighters decided they needed a winter camping trip – on the roof of their fire station.
