Government helps beef up security for P.A. seniors

May 9, 2011 | 2:38 PM

Seniors in Prince Albert will be resting a little easier with the roll out of a home security program.

The government announced today it’s establishing a home-security program for low-income seniors and seniors who have been victims of home invasions. Under the program, individuals can take advantage of a free home-security audit and free home-security devices such as deadbolts, viewers and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

“It’s just a way of providing a … little bit more safety and security for (seniors) and that’s what the program is really all about,” said Yogi Huyghebaert, Minister of Corrections, Public Safety and Policing.

The government will provide pre-qualified contractors who will inspect homes and arrange for the required security devices.
