Raiders add defensive depth

Sep 26, 2016 | 5:00 PM

The Raiders went the trade route to add depth to their blueline.

They acquired 19-year-old Cameron Reagan from Kamloops for a conditional bantam draft pick in 2019.

The 6”1”, 212-lb defenseman from Sherwood Park, AB has seven assists in 199 career games with the Kamloop Blazers after being selected in the fourth round of the 2012 draft.

The Raiders were reduced to five defensemen during Friday night’s season opener in Regina when veteran Loch Morrison was knocked out following a first period hit into the boards. The P.A. product didn’t play in Saturday’s home opener against the Pats.

Morrison’s absence and the lower body injury sustained by 18-year-old defenseman Cody Paivarinta late in the preseason prompted the recall of 15-year-old Adam Herold for Saturday’s game.

The second round draft choice from last May played several shifts early in the contest.

The Raiders are also getting another veteran winger back from an NHL tryout. Luke Coleman, 18, played for the Detroit rookies at a prospects tournament before being invited to the Red Wings main training camp.

The Raiders, who split their regular season opening home-and-home series against Regina, host Swift Current Friday night and Edmonton Sunday afternoon.

Both games can be heard on 900 CKBI.
